Select Veneers To Improve Your Smile

There are several treatments that dentists can recommend to improve the look of your teeth. If your front teeth are discoloured, but are not otherwise diseased, then having veneers put on them may be a good option for you.

What are Veneers?

Veneers are bonded to teeth to hide discolouration, make them appear brighter or to improve their appearance if they have been chipped or if you have a gap between your teeth. They are very thin shells made from either ceramic (porcelain) or a resin material that are bonded to teeth. Veneers are durable enough to last for several years and they can be applied without using general anaesthesia.

Choosing Veneers

Before any procedure is performed, West Midlands dentists will examine your teeth to assess their condition and then, based on the diagnosis, make a recommendation for treatment. If the dentist decides that veneers are a good option for you, then he or she will describe the procedure and create a treatment plan. The veneers will be sized and shaped to provide an exact fit over your existing teeth so they will look as natural as possible.

Applying Veneers

In order to cover the front teeth, about half a millimetre of each tooth is buffed away so they fit properly. When the veneers are applied, they will be shaped to fit each tooth and hide its imperfections. Veneers made from the resin composite can be applied in one visit, but impressions of your teeth will be made for the ceramic veneers and you will have to make another appointment for the ceramic veneers to be applied.

Dental veneers are a good alternative to crowns for improving the look of your teeth. They appear to be natural in shape and colour, so they will help improve your smile.
