The recent news has much talk about alternative medical treatments and natural remedies for getting your body healthy. There is an overload of information out there about any topic, health and wellness is a huge broad topic that has good and bad information. If you spend any time on social media you are bombarded with posts about the latest cure for this or that ailment, or the latest fad diet or supplement. So how does a logical, busy person know what is good or even safe to try and what is not?
Many people have discovered that traditional medical professionals are more about treating your symptoms than they are about getting you healthy and well. More like it is a business and good customers are sick customers, because they keep coming back for more treatment. It is a sad medical health situation in the USA.
Even in all this there is a need for conventional or functional medical professionals, such as if you have recurring ear infections you could be sent to an ENT doctor, who specializes in ear, nose and throat issues. This is usually an option in the case of chronic or severe issues. You may need a referral to a specialist from your family doctor or primary care physician.
Yet there is still the question of what can you do that is good and safe to improve your health and possibly heal your own medical issues?
Lifestyle changes
First and foremost, you have to be willing, or just so fed up, to change your lifestyle and your eating habits. Eating for health is not a fad or a temporary thing, it is a lifestyle change that can greatly affect your quality of life for the rest of your life. It is hard for some people to be willing to make changes because it is good for their health if they are not sick at the present moment.
Changing your mindset about food
In an era of fast-paced life, it is hard to choose the path less traveled. In this case, eating healthy is tough to get used to. Choosing ingredients over convenience in a busy life can seem impossible. By doing a bit of personal research you can learn about why our bodies have become addicted to fast and processed foods, and why we crave them. It honestly can be quite scary to realize that we have been fed foods with addictive qualities in order to make us want more and more. This is almost as scary as knowing the effects of these overly processed and unhealthy foods. Yet, as scary as it is, until you change your mindset about the food you put into your body, convenience and addiction will keep you going back for more.
Health coach
There is much buzz in the last few years about health and nutritional coaches or health professionals assisting with diets. There is a difference between a nutritionist and a health coach in that health coaches are similar to life coaches, who help to guide you on your path to discover what is right for you. A clinical nutritionist is a health professional that has been trained in the medical field to give diets, guidelines, limits and do not eat list. As with many healthcare professionals they are not taught to guide a person to learning what is best for their body. A good health coach is not there to tell you what to do or what to eat. They are there to learn about you and what areas of your life are creating health issues, then they help you discover what changes in your lifestyle and diet may help you overcome these issues.
