Singapore is known as Asia’s largest center for healthcare development as they put such a strong emphasis on technological startups, building the best hospitals in the world, and investing more money in healthcare practices. In order to maintain their spot as one of the world’s leading innovative healthcare centers, there are a variety of interesting inventions that are currently being developed and brought out of Singapore over the years.
- ADHD Focusing Video Game
As a common mental disorder, the most quintessential trademark of ADHD is being unable to concentrate for any length of time. Researchers in Singapore from the Institute for Infocomm Research have developed a video game that is said to improve the focus of children with ADHD. The first product that they want to release this year focuses on tracking the brain activity of children through a headset that then sends information to a computer via Bluetooth. With this technology they can monitor the mental activity associated with attention and studies have shown that after playing the game for 8 consecutive weeks, children experienced a 40% decrease in their symptoms.
- Migraine Buddy for Tracking Migraines
Migraines are incredibly common amongst adults, particularly if you have a genetic predisposition to them. The Singaporean developer Healint has created an application called Migraine buddy that is designed to keep track of your migraines. It has an incredibly easy to use interface that gives users the ability to track every aspect of their migraine from triggers to their intensity. There’s also a new algorithm that has been introduced to the app that allows users to track their sleep.
- Genetic Eye Disease Tests
When it comes to dealing with eye disease such as corneal stromal dystrophy, patients were put in a situation where they had to wait to see if the disorder would actually develop in their eyes or not. Luckily, a team of researchers in Singapore developed an approach that gives doctors an easier time determining whether a patient has corneal stromal dystrophy or not. The Polaris-TGFBI test definitively tests for the eye disorder in Singapore, and gives patients the ability to get on treatment plans before the effects of the disease take their toll.
- Smartcare Mats
There are hundreds of things that infants’ need as they are developing, but enough sleep is one of the most important. It’s quite common for parents to lose a lot of sleep because they are constantly worrying about whether their children are getting enough rest to ensure proper physical and mental development. Singaporean researchers have developed an array of smartmats, known as the OSPICON sleep mat that effectively monitors the breathing patterns of your baby while it’s sleeping on the mat. It also keeps track of any irregularities in their sleeping and records all of the information on an application that you download to your smart phone. It’s also useful for creating a sleep log as the fiber optic sensors inside of the mat track your child’s breathing throughout the night.
