How To Lead A Healthy Lifestyle When Studying Away At University

Stay healthy at university is a very important thing to do. Lots of students tend to let themselves go when they’re at university as they don’t necessarily have the money to spend on food and the like. In fact many students often find themselves eating cheaper, less expensive and less healthy foods at university. So we’ve compiled a list of some of the things that you can do at university to help you to remain fit and healthy!

Make Sure that You Sleep as Much as Possible:

When at university it is vitally important you maintain a healthy and a well-rested mind. What with the intense combination of both work and play that comes with the part of being a student. One of the most important factors of this is sleep. So many students get into quite irregular and quite dangerous sleeping patterns, whether that’s due to the long nights out partying and drinking, an all-night study session or simply just staying in bed all day after an early lecture, it’s more than understandable to have such an odd sleeping pattern as a student, but it will almost certainly make the world of difference if you manage to just get a good night’s sleep consistently.

Exercise! Exercise! Exercise!:

Exercise can be incredibly difficult to come by in university, especially if you don’t want to pay out for a gym membership. But it is absolutely imperative to living a healthy lifestyle at university. There are loads of ways that you can save yourself some money and get yourself in-shape. One of the ways to do this is rather than getting the bus to university or to your job, why not walk? You’ll find that things become a lot easier, because no only only will you be saving yourself an awful lot of money in bus fare, you’ll also be able to get yourself in-shape too which can help a lot too, also the added bonus is that it helps you to explore your new home with real ease. Most cities are also very bicycle friendly and if you do want to join a gym remember that it is more than likely that your campus is likely to have one, and that students will also be able to join for more reasonable prices, or at least you’ll be able to get a discount of some sort. As you workout and you try to lose weight you need to keep an eye on your BMI (Body Mass Index) too. You can also get yourself an indication of whether your weight might be affecting your health. BMI is more commonly used by Doctors and other health professionals worldwide and it is calculated by using your weight and your height, you can work this out by using a BMI Calculator.

No too Much:

Various foods like bread, pasta, and cereals, will all have to become your favourite foods very quickly if you want to stay healthy, but you also need to eat these in moderation too, don’t go overboard! Just keep in mind that things like dessert should really become a treat for you on an occasional basis, not as a habit, you can always have junk food, but you really shouldn’t have too much of it, if you have way too much junk food, then it will mean that you’ll be setting yourself very far back! Make sure that you’re always filling up on nutrient-rich foods with plenty of fibre like your normal wholegrain foods. You can possibly try and add chicken to your salad for a protein boost too! Also there are plenty of articles out there about healthy eating at university.

Thanks for reading and good luck!
