Lymphatic Diseases Everyone Should Know About

There are many types of diseases that may strike us any time without noticing them. Some of which are not caused by transmission, but they just naturally occur in our body, while others are hereditary. For instance, bone diseases are not contagious as they may be hereditary or lifestyle-based, and if you suffer from a bone disease, a Venous Stent will help you get back to normal.

Meanwhile, there are a lot more diseases you should know to determine whether or not you are already suffering from them. Some of the diseases you must be aware of are lymphatic diseases. We know that our lymphatic system is an important part of our immune system, so any problem with it will affect our overall health.

Today, we will look deeper at some of the lymphatic diseases you should know about.

  1. Lymphatic Filariasis

Lymphatic Filariasis sometimes spelled as philariasis is a parasitic disease usually transmitted from one individual to another through a carrier. The carrier is usually a blood-sucking insect such as mosquitoes.

The most common symptom of philariasis is the thickening of the skin. Nonetheless, it can be diagnosed through finger prick test.

  1. Elephantiasis

Elephantiasis is a lymphatic diseases that is caused by microscopic worms and parasites that can destroy tissues. When these parasites attack, you will notice a sudden swelling or thickening of your skin.

Most of the time, the swelling is extreme enough to make you look like an elephant, and this is why it’s so named. The parasites that cause this disease are transmitted by mosquitoes. The most common victims of Elephantiasis are children.

  1. Lymphangiosarcoma

Lymphangiosarcoma is actually a rare disease; however, it becomes malignant as time goes by. It starts from discoloration of skin usually a purple color, or it may also appear as bruise mark.

Afterward, it becomes an ulcer which leads to necrosis. After sometime, it becomes a malignant tumor. It’s commonly treated through chemotherapy, but amputation is considered more effective.

  1. Lymphangiomatosis

Lymphangiomatosis, is an inborn disease. It’s a congenital error that fails to develop the lymphatic system normally. This results in the formation of cysts that affect almost all organs in the body.

It also affects the bones overtime as it can attack your lungs, liver, kidney, and other internal organs. This is why it is also called multi-system disease detected by an X-Ray.

  1. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a disease in which lymph nodes grow abnormally. It’s just normal to have lymph nodes when there is an infection near the area. Usually, lymph nodes are a bit painful when you touch them.

However, when the swelling is abnormal and the lymph nodes are surprisingly painless, it’s likely that you suffer from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Symptoms also include weight loss and fatigue.

  1. Lymphedema

Lymphedema is the obstruction in the lymphatic system that results in swelling of tissues. Common symptoms of Lymphedema are discoloration of the skin, swollen limbs, and even deformity.

  1. Lymphoid Leukemia

Lymphoid Leukemia is hard to detect in the early stages because it doesn’t show symptoms right away. However, when it becomes severe, symptoms start appearing, which include painless lymph nodes, frequent infection, night sweats, weight loss, fever, and fatigue.

Final Thoughts

When you have wounds or infection, you will notice some swollen areas near the wound or infection. The swelling is usually underneath the ears, which is called a lymph node. It is where white corpuscles build up in order to fight the bacteria in the wounds or in the infected area. Lymph nodes will become abnormal if you suffer from any lymphatic disease.
