Meth Addiction: Seek Treatment Immediately

Addiction to the drug Meth has actually been around since the 1930s. It was created in inhalers for those with breathing problems. It has recently been becoming a serious problem in the addiction world as it is very difficult to stop using. It is thought of a party drug because it keeps you awake and can give a lot of energy. It is a very addicting drug and can cause extremely serious health problems with prolonged use. If a person becomes addicted to this drug, it often takes a considerable amount of time before they actually seek help in quitting. The use of a treatment plan and facility like that of Hillcrest Rehab, can greatly improve a person’s chances of leaving the drug alone.

Symptoms of an Addict

When a person has become addicted to Meth, it becomes very difficult for them to quit. Those that seek this type of drug often need energy in abundance and may even use it to help them lose weight. When a person is on the drug you will notice high body temperature with lots of sweating, a loss of appetite, repetitive motions, and even jaw clenching. When a person is coming down from this drug they can show signs of anxiety and depression, violent behaviour, and even seizures. When a person is withdrawing from Meth, they will start picking at their skin, have severe paranoia, tooth decay, and sometimes can feel as if there are bugs crawling under their skin. This drug can cause serious and sometimes permanent effects on the brain and body, which is why it is important to seek treatment as soon as possible.

Types of Treatment

Treatment for someone addicted to meth is a very difficult process. Much like other treatments, a cognitive behaviour therapy is very effective. During this therapy, the addict will discover what cause them to turn to this drug in the first place. It will also teach them to recognize triggers and reform their way of thinking. This is helping them decide that the drug is not what they need to feel better. As this drug causes many changes in the brain, it is imperative to have this type of therapy during treatment. One of the most common types of treatment is referred to as the Matrix-Model. This is an intensive process and lasts up to six months. Throughout this time the addict will have several education sessions where they will learn about the drug and what it does. They will also be a part of a 12-step program and having family involved in the process is important. One part of this process that is very beneficial is the contingency, which is where the addict is rewarded for not using. This helps them to feel good about the steps they are taking.

Using meth is very serious and many long time users will never fully recover from what the drug has done to their body. It is important to seek help from a treatment facility to help you through the process of kicking the habit as it will probably kill you if you don’t.
