Ways To Keep Your Body In Competitive Shape

When you are serious about your swimming career, you probably want to do everything in your power to keep your body in top shape.  Neglecting even one aspect of your wellness could negatively impact your performance in the pool.

Along with training every day, you may need to add other activities to your schedule to keep your mind and body focused on winning.  You may benefit by eating a balanced diet, doing yoga for swimmers, and by getting plenty of rest at night.

The Benefits of Yoga

You may associate yoga as an exercise for people who are into meditating.  It is true that much of yoga is centred around meditating. However, it is more than just sitting on a mat while chanting or humming a mantra.  Yoga is actually categorised as an aerobic exercise that can benefit your heart, muscles, bones, lungs, and brain.

At first glance, it may not look very strenuous.  When you perform it in water, however, you gain the resistance of the water itself as well as the resistance of gravity working against your muscles.  You may notice that you are out of breath within just a few minutes of starting.

The Internet is full of swimming yoga lessons.  However, when you want to train with someone who also works with competitive swimmers like you, you may benefit by joining the swimming organisation.  You can join by signing up for a membership and then subscribe to services like yoga that interest you.

Other Ways to Stay in Shape

Along with doing yoga, you also may stay in shape as a swimmer by getting plenty of rest at night and by eating a balanced diet.  Your coach may have you on a high protein diet that will feed your muscles. You also may be told to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and energised.

Because swimming is such a physically exhausting sport, you may need to get plenty of sleep at night.  You cannot get away with just five or six hours of rest. You may need a full eight hours to feel ready to compete and swim the next day.

If you have yet to hire a coach to train you, you can find one who is ready to work with you on the organisation’s website.  You can sign up for coaching by the hour so you can decide to what extent you want to invest in your own swimming career.
