4 Reasons Why You Should Be Eating Healthy Snacks at Work

In the modern workforce, many companies are implementing workplace wellness programs. Healthy eating at work can improve productivity and overall performance, have a positive impact on mental acuity and provide employees with a burst of energy. It’s good for business and good for employees. When employees feel healthy and happy, everyone wins.

Here are four reasons why eating healthy snacks at work should be an essential part of every well-balanced diet.

Increased productivity

A recent study showed that employees who eat healthy throughout the day are 25 percent more likely to have higher job performance. When employees are satisfied, they’re more productive and also less likely to take off from work due to illness.

Workplace wellness

The impact of employee health and wellness goes beyond business. Missed workdays can put more pressure on coworkers to pick up the workload, which can lead to employee burnout. To help boost overall health and wellness, many employers are encouraging healthier lifestyles through healthy eating at work. Healthy vending at work is a simple way to provide employees with healthier snack options that are convenient, affordable and lead to healthier choices that can have a positive impact on the bottom line.

Improved employee satisfaction

Making healthier food choices during the workday can also have a positive difference on company morale. When employees feel like their professional and personal goals are being met, it can lend a big boost to the workplace culture.

Reduced healthcare costs

The U.S. spends about $3 trillion annually on healthcare – more than any other nation. Winning with Wellness, a report by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, reveals that today’s healthcare cost crisis is largely a byproduct of poor health, with more than 117 million Americans having one or more chronic illnesses that account for 75 percent of all medical costs. Full-time employees consume approximately 43 percent of their daily snacks and meals during their time at work. That means the nutritional content of food consumed during the workday can have a significant impact on an employee’s overall health. When you also consider the fact that medical costs drop $3.27 for every $1 spent on wellness programs, it’s clear that prevention is the best strategy.

A healthy diet has been shown to improve concentration and workplace productivity while eating junk food can decrease mental clarity, reduce job performance and lead to higher levels of stress. Encouraging the replacement of sugary drinks and traditional vending machine junk food with healthy vending snack and drink options can be a simple and cost-effective component of any company wellness program.
